Instagram again allows users to view feed in chronological order

Instagram has decided to resume the feed in chronological order six years after abolishing it, but with changes. As of this Wednesday (24), users now have two options for viewing their feed on Instagram: “Favorites” or “Following”, and the option to feed chronology is only available in the “Favorites” option, where the user chooses the accounts he wants to follow.

In a statement signed by Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, it is explained that the homepage will continue to present the posts organized by the company’s algorithm, that is, with “content from the accounts that the user follows”, mixed with the suggested posts.

“People use their feed of Instagram for different reasons – from discovering new creators in suggested posts, to keeping up to date with your friends and family. Instagram wants people to feel good about the time they spend on the app, giving them ways to shape their experience in what’s best for them,” he said.

In the Favorites option, available in the upper left corner of the screen, users can add up to 50 accounts that will not know they have been added or removed from these lists, similar to what happens in the “best friends” lists in Instagram stories. When you select this option, the posts will appear in chronological order and with a star in the upper right corner.

In statements to CNN Businessa spokesperson for Meta, which owns Instagram, said the company is constantly working to give users “more control”.

“We are always working on new ways for people to have more control over their Instagram experience. Giving new ways to quickly see what matters most is an example of these efforts,” she said.

Instagram had discontinued the chronological feed in 2016.
