There is everything on the street, even furniture to change the decor: armchairs, tables, wardrobes, chandeliers, accessories. “Useless” or “old” items for those who left them out of the house to throw them away, but perfect for others as they are, sometimes with some minor repairs, or even just a new color. All this a zero cost, even for the environment: it is the beauty ofupcycling, that is the creative reuse which, especially as regards the home, in big cities is an art for many fans.
Indeed it is in one of the largest cities in the world that a new account has been born that is setting the trend: it is New York, and the profile to follow is @stoopingnyc (in the gallery above some images).
Second “phenomenon” Time Out, the bible of New Yorkers on everything that is beautiful and new to do in the city, and who first noticed this account with 120 thousand followers (for now) including Hilary Duff e Sarah Jessica Parker.
The creators, a Brooklyn couple who wanted to remain anonymous, under the motto of “what is garbage for someone is a treasure for someone else” they post what they find around every day, but also follower reports who want to get rid of pieces of furniture. There is really everything, from armchairs (the most popular), to wardrobes, but also chairs, tables, and often collector’s items: each with a precise address to “pick them up” and take them home.
A social phenomenon but also a social one: finding so much furniture on the street is one of the effects of depopulation of New York where the inhabitants, as is happening in many other large cities, due to Covid, and thanks to smartworking, move to more isolated places. The @stoopingnyc couple confirmed to Time Ot that the number of requests has soared as the pandemic progresses.
“We have seen full apartments emptied in summer and autumn by people leaving the city. Now the situation has somewhat normalized, ”explained the couple, telling that now hunting for furniture on the street, outdoors, has also become a way for New Yorkers to occupy time and socialize. Best time to try? For every city, the New York rule suggested by applies @stoopingnyc: check the calendar for the collection of bulky waste, area by area. The day of the retreat is the best day to make “purchases”, or even just to photograph (and post) occasions to recommend to others. In the gallery above some of those proposed by @stoopingnyc
