Instagram inserts subtitles in Stories

The Stories of Instagram will become for everyone: the platform has just announced that it will insert automatic subtitles. The primary goal is to make the most accessible social network: thanks to the texts even people with hearing problems will finally be able to follow all the contents. At the same time the novelty will pay off simpler views when audio cannot be used (for example when you are in a quiet place with other people) or you do not want to use the earphones.

The new function can be exploited with a new sticker, to be added to videos shot directly with Instagram or with the phone: the subtitles will appear automatically, we will only have to change the style, color or position on the screen.

Even spelling errors can be corrected: it is easy to predict that, given that the system is automated, there will be no shortage ofspelling or punctuation inaccuracies.

The news for now it is available in English-speaking countries but it will soon be spread to the rest of the world and usable – with the same system as the Stories – for the Reels. Meanwhile, it is a big step forward towards a new social communication system to which we must get used to: the Instagram announcement arrives a few weeks after TikTok rolled out subtitles in the US and Japan, while Twitter prepares them for its Audio Spaces, and while Facebook has made it known that they are working on a very similar project.
