Instagram tests filter for unwanted nudes via DM; understand

O Instagram started testing a tool that filters the receipt of nudes and unwanted content that arrive via DM (Acronym for direct message).

The company guarantees that the technology does not allow Meta, the company that owns Instagram, to view users’ private messages.

“We are developing a set of optional controls to help people protect themselves from unwanted DMs such as photos containing nudity. This technology does not allow Meta to see anyone’s private messages, nor for them to be shared with us or anyone else,” Meta said in a statement.

The company, however, did not say when the feature will be available to users, but reiterated that the new tool aims to preserve privacy on Instagram.

“We are working closely with experts to ensure that these new features preserve people’s privacy while giving them control over the messages they receive,” Meta said.

The company has not yet detailed how the filter will work.
