Instagram will improve its features that help users block the accounts of abusers and trolls on the platform, the Meta-owned company said on Thursday.
Users will now be able to block all of a person’s existing accounts, expanding on a feature released last year that only allowed blocking new accounts that trolls could create.
“Based on the results of initial testing of this new change, we expect our community to need to block 4 million fewer accounts each week as those accounts will be automatically blocked,” Instagram said.
The app has been doubling down on fighting hate speech and online abuse on its platform, which is more popular with teens and young adults than Facebook.
Instagram also updated its feature that helps prevent users from viewing potentially abusive messages by filtering out offensive words for story responses, and said on Thursday it is expanding “nudges” designed to protect creators from harassment.
