Last week Facebook and all of its services were down for more than six hours. This was the most massive failure, which repeated itself a few days later. However, the second time the consequences were not so large-scale. Apparently, the company has made some conclusions and now intends to add special notifications to the Instagram application, warning users of “temporary technical problems”.
Instagram is already testing the new feature in the US, which will take several months. Alerts will appear in the Actions section along with other notifications in the app. They will report specific issues, such as stories not being loaded at the moment, or a broader issue, such as a recent crash. Instagram says it has no plans to warn users of all issues, just those that could be the source of the general commotion.
“We will not send a notification every time a failure occurs, but when we see people confused and looking for answers, we will determine if we can help them by clarifying the situation,” says the Instagram blog.
In addition, Instagram has introduced a new Account Status section. It is designed to notify users about what actions are taking place with their account. This will include notifications about deleted publications, warnings about disconnection and account blocking due to violation of platform rules, and so on. In the coming months, Instagram plans to add informing users about how their content is distributed and recommended.
