Instagram will return the timeline, which was abandoned back in 2016

Back in 2016, the social network Instagram abandoned the usual mechanism for showing posts in chronological order – instead, a new feed algorithm was launched that shows posts based on user interests and many other parameters. True, right at the release, many users were disappointed with the new issuance of posts, since some publications were simply hidden by the algorithm, or were shown with a noticeable delay. Now, fortunately, the developers of the social network are planning to return the chronological issue of posts in the first quarter of 2022.

However, the dissatisfaction of users in this case does not play any role – the whole point is that American senators consider this tape potentially dangerous for a teenage audience, since underage users fall into the power of the algorithm. This issue was raised during the testimony of Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, in the US Senate in the case of the negative impact of the social network on the younger generation. There, Mosseri said that he supports the idea of reviving the timeline, which will move away from manipulation by Instagram algorithms. And the company, according to him, is already working on the implementation of the original distribution tape.

“We believe in more transparency, accountability and more control. That is why we are now working on a version of the timeline, which we hope to launch next year, “- officially declared Adam Mosseri.

The original tape is due to launch in the first quarter of 2022, but it will most likely not be presented in the default option format. Most likely, users of the social network will have the opportunity to choose a feed, while adolescents will only have a standard chronological feed of publications.
