Intel has unveiled the Alchemist, a fantasy character familiar from Dungeons and Dragons and Final Fantasy XIV, who tried to turn common metal into gold. The Alchemist is both a character that will be used in advertising for Arc series video cards, and a codename for these very video cards – based on the Xe-HPG architecture.

Interestingly, Intel also introduced three other characters: Battlemage, Celestial, and Druida. The first is part of the Elder Scrolls universe, the second belongs to the group of Marvel Comics characters: the Celestial is a representative of the immortal race of space gods with immense power. Well, the Druid is the most common character. It is featured in games such as Baldur’s Gate, Dungeons and Dragons, EverQuest II, and World of Warcraft. The same codenames designate the next three generations of Intel graphics cards – Xe2-HPG, Xe3-HPG and Xe Next Architecture respectively.

Intel’s choice of characters, one way or another related to games or fantasy universes, is not accidental: the company is going to powerfully enter and gain a foothold in the market of gaming models, pushing Nvidia and AMD.
