Intel is considering building a plant in India

As it became known, Tower Semiconductor has been negotiating with the government of India for more than a decade, but, apparently, the parties have not yet been able to reach a suitable agreement. According to the source, Tower Semiconductor was already ready to drop any plans in this area back in September 2021, but a recent initiative by the Indian government has renewed interest.

What kind of factory Intel can build in India is not yet clear. Regardless of what the object will be, it is interesting that Intel decided to keep the Tower Semiconductor plans in place. Tower Semiconductor mainly produced products for developers who did not have their own production, producing about two million wafers per year. It is likely that Intel will continue to manufacture for the same companies on the same terms for the time being, although as Tower Semiconductor integrates into Intel’s contract manufacturing, the situation may change.
