Intel Takes Down Speedy Optane SSDs

The entire Optane-only family of SSDs (Solid State Drives) for desktop PCs has been ceased including the Optane Memory M10, 800P, 900P and 905P drives, as Tom’s Hardware discovered. However, it was informed that the remaining units have been expected to ship until February 26 and was mentioned that whoever wants these Optane SSDs should purchase them immediately before they disappear from the market completely.

The company stated that Intel will not include the latest large-capacity Optane Memory SSD as a customer market segment transition product. For the client business segment, Intel will concentrate on the new Optane Memory H20 with Solid State Storage. However, Intel has not completely abandoned fully-fledged Optane SSDs, as there will be a second-gen Optane device in the form of the P5800X for the server segment. It does not seem likely, but this is going to be a customer offering in any shape or form.

The H20 was recently released at the end of 2020 and has been designed mostly for notebooks or small form factor PCs and OEM usage.

The H20 product is not an Optane dedicated drive, but rather a standard QLC flash SSD twinned with Optane memory. These cache drives are speeded up a little by the limited amount of on-board Optane memory but are not nearly fast as the discontinued dedicated drives.

Benefits of SSDs

Reliability

SSDs have been reliable either when calculating data storage or while looking for uncorrupted files. Because of improved engineering, today’s SSDs also have the tendency to deliver a longer life cycle and greater endurance. And since they are available in smaller sizes, vibration or heat output has practically been absent, which has increased the life of the drive.

Boosts Performance

Intel Optane SSDs has a fast speed while playing games or while performing any tasks and users do not have to wait. Less latency has been experienced due to the storage of constantly used applications like documents, videos, pictures, and others.

Optane has been speeding up the performance by completing everyday tasks up to 2.1X faster and with ample storage capacity, loading files 1.6X faster.

Optane SSDs can also be used to detect signs of fraud as well as track diseases.
