SiFive, a young company specializing in the development of high-performance processors based on the RISC-V architecture, received an offer from Intel. Bloomberg reported this with reference to sources close to the deal. Intel allegedly offered $ 2 billion.
According to Bloomberg, SiFive has received similar offers not only from Intel and is now consulting with possible advisors in the deal. Negotiations are at an early stage and there are no guarantees that the deal will take place.
The latest estimate for 2020 puts SiFive at $ 500 million.
Interest in SiFive has grown with Nvidia’s acquisition of Arm. It is believed that SiFive could benefit from this deal as current Arm licensees fear a shift in Arm’s attitude toward licensing the popular architecture.
