Intel’s latest desktop processor architecture still lags behind Zen 3. Ryzen 9 5950X vs. Core i9-11900K compare on equal terms

Intel Rocket Lake-S processors will soon go on sale, and with them Comet Lake Refresh models should also appear on the shelves. As a reminder, the Rocket Lake lineup includes Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9 models. Everything that is younger belongs to the Comet Lake Refresh line, that is, it is based on the old architecture. And today we can take a look at the review of the Core i3-10325 and Core i3-10105.

Compared to their predecessors, such CPUs offer a 100 MHz higher frequency and that’s all. Naturally, the performance gain in this case is scanty, but the interesting thing is that the source recorded a slight decrease in power consumption and operating temperatures. In any case, it makes no sense to switch from Comet Lake to Comet Lake Refresh within the same segment.

However, the source decided to make the material more interesting and compared not only processors, but also architectures. To do this, the Core i3-10320 (Comet Lake) and Core i3-10325 (Comet Lake Refresh) processors were supplemented with the Core i9-11900K (Cypress Cove) and Ryzen 9 5950X (Zen 3). At the same time, all processors worked at 4 GHz, and all had only four cores active.

As a result, as we can see, Comet Lake Refresh provides 2-3% performance gain at best, while Rocket Lake is already 15-25% faster, and this can really be considered a very great achievement. True, in order to catch up with Zen 3, this is not enough, since such a CPU turns out to be 5-10% faster than Intel’s new product, and there is no need to talk about a comparison with Comet Lake.

Of course, even under the stipulated conditions, we are not talking about a direct comparison of architectures only. But to put it simply, Zen 3 is faster than Cypress Cove, although the gap isn’t nearly as catastrophic as it once was.
