Intel’s new processors are very power hungry. Core i7-11700K draws up to 200W

Intel Rocket Lake-S processors, as you know, will receive a new (for the desktop segment) architecture, but retain the 14-nanometer process technology.

At the same time, the frequencies of some new CPUs will increase significantly, which makes us think about power consumption. Rumors about high rates have been circulating for a long time, but now it seems that they have been confirmed.

One of the ChipHell forum users got hold of two new CPUs at once: Core i7-11700K and Core i5-11400F. The first, we recall, has eight cores with frequencies of 3.6-5.0 GHz, and the second must operate at frequencies of 2.9-4.4 GHz. That is, relative to their predecessors, the frequencies of these new products have changed insignificantly.

At the same time, in the AIDA64 FPU test, the junior CPU showed an energy consumption of 145 W, and the older one – 200 W! In both cases, the processors were running at 4.2 GHz under load.

It is worth remembering that there will also be a Core i9-11900K model, operating at higher frequencies. How much it will consume is still scary to even imagine.
