This Wednesday (18), the Brazilian Navy, through the Captaincy of the Ports of Rio de Janeiro, issued an alert for strong winds and rough seas in the next two days, due to bad weather conditions caused by the subtropical cyclone Yakecan.
“The occurrence, in the next 48 hours, of very strong winds and very thick seas is expected in the maritime areas adjacent to the coasts of the South and Southeast regions”, they wrote.
The recommendation for all platforms, terminals, maritime clubs, fishing colonies, marinas, maritime support facilities and entities of the maritime community in general is that they reinforce security measures and are in a position to activate their respective contingency plans or of emergency.
Cyclone Yakecan reached the coast of Rio Grande do Sul on Monday (16), and the forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) is that it will pass through Santa Catarina and Paraná, as well as the south of the state of São Paulo. Winds can reach 100km/h.
Therefore, the Navy warns the commanders of large ships to carry out an assessment regarding the need to navigate in the aforementioned areas during the period, as well as the reinforcement of mooring and anchoring conditions.
For smaller vessels, the recommendation is that they do not sail during the period, in addition to searching for well-sheltered areas and also reinforcing the mooring and anchoring conditions.
Wind gusts and low temperatures
During the dawn of this Wednesday, minimum temperatures were recorded in the south of the country.
In Bom Jardim da Serra (SC) the thermometers marked -2.5°C. In São José dos Ausentes (RS), the temperature was 0°C and in Cambará do Sul (RS), the minimum reached 1.7°C.
Inmet recorded on Tuesday (17) in Rio Grande do Sul, winds of 95.76 km/h. According to the agency, the gusts should lose intensity during this Wednesday, due to the displacement of the Yakecan towards the coast of Santa Catarina.
However, the cyclone continues to drive a drop in the country’s temperatures. Weather warnings involve risk of heavy rains, cold waves, gales and low temperatures.
