Intense cold in São Paulo may have caused the death of two people

The cold may have caused the death of two people in the metropolitan region of São Paulo this Wednesday (18). The body of a 39-year-old man was found on Avenida Barão de Mauá, in the city of Mauá, around 7:10 am; in São Paulo, a man died at a city hall service center in the East Zone of the city. The causes of death are still being investigated, but the cold is one of the hypotheses raised.

A cold front advances through the Center-South of the country this week, which has dropped temperatures in all states in the region. In São Paulo, the thermal sensation at dawn this Wednesday reached -4°C in some parts of the city.

According to Climatempo forecast, temperatures should remain low throughout this week.

The Public Security Secretariat reported that the body of a 39-year-old man was found in Mauá, and showed no signs of violence. The case was registered in the 3rd Police District of the municipality.

THE CNN contacted the municipality of Mauá and is awaiting a response.

In the city of São Paulo, a 66-year-old man was being treated at a Shelter Center when he had convulsions and died. According to reports from people who were close to him, the man spent the night sleeping on the street.

According to the city hall, the homeless population in São Paulo has grown 31% in the last two years. There are currently 31,884 people on the city’s streets.

The government of São Paulo launched the “Solidarity Winter” campaign, to collect blankets at any of the posts spread throughout the city of São Paulo, in addition to points in the metropolitan region.

The donations received will be destined for homeless people and social entities, including hospitals and reception centers in all 645 municipalities in the state.
