O Inter revised upward the projection of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for this year, as announced on Tuesday (18). The bank is now forecasting 3% growth in 2022 compared to 2.8% in the previous estimate.
“The service sector continues to be the highlight of growth and should contribute to a positive GDP in the second half of the year, despite the slower pace,” said the bank.
In relation to next year, Inter maintained its growth projection of 1%, data even higher than the market’s expectation, which expects a growth of 0.59% of GDP.
“For 2023, we still expect a slowdown driven by weaker global demand and restrictive interest rates here, even so, GDP should show a high close to 1%, returning to the potential of 2% only in 2024,” he said in a statement.
The revision comes amid consecutive increases in expectations for the Brazilian economy, after a first half that surprised economists. Santander, for example, announced the previous week that it projected growth of 2.8% for the year, also above the market median.
Inter also lowered its inflation forecast, which went from 5.8% to 5.5% this year – closer to the ceiling of the target stipulated by the Central Bank of 5%. The goal of IPCA estimated for 2022 was 3.5%.
According to the Focus Bulletin, which brings market estimates, and was released this Monday, GDP is now estimated at 2.71%, against 2.70% last week.
