The fans of “Game of Thrones” now have one more reason to celebrate: an immersive tour of the series’ original filming studios was officially launched last Friday (4). The sets of “Game of Thrones StudiosTour” are located at Linen Mill Studios, in the city of Banbridge, about 40 kilometers by car from the capital Belfast, in Northern Ireland.
The all-new interactive attraction takes guests to iconic locations from the show, such as the Great Hall of Winterfell Castle, where Jon Snow (Kit Harington) was proclaimed King in the North, as well as the throne of Dragonstone by Daenerys Targaryen.
Tourists will also be able to see up close the props, weapons and visual effects of the recordings, as well as the techniques and work of the team in bringing the series from the script to the small screens. The initial sketches of some scenes are available to the public, who can also analyze the final result on screen – it is worth mentioning that, in total, “Game of Thrones” won 59 Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
In addition to the secrets of visual effects being revealed, guests can test their own acting skills in front of one of the green screens used to bring the series to life. Costumes worn by the main characters are also on display, from Sansa Stark’s (Sophie Turner) wedding dress to Jon Snow’s fur coats.
The tour is self-guided, in which tourists can regulate their own pace – if you prefer, you can buy an audio guide with more detailed information about the tour. Inside the studios there are also two cafes that serve food and drinks.
Altogether, the tour lasts two to three hours and all tickets must be booked in advance through the official site. Adults aged between 16 and 65 pay £39.50 (approximately R$280) and children aged between 5 and 15 pay £27.50 (approximately R$200). Family and group admission packages can also be purchased.
In a press release, Northern Ireland Tourism CEO John McGrillen said the attraction will open up new opportunities for the country. “The attraction will provide a world-class experience for visitors and demonstrates the growing opportunity that film tourism brings to our hotels, hospitality industry and other attractions in Northern Ireland,” he said.
Based on books by George RR Martin, “Game of Thrones” aired in over 200 countries and territories around the world, garnering a legion of fans over eight seasons and 73 episodes. One spin off of the series, called “House of the Dragon“, is expected to debut on HBO and streaming HBO Max later in 2022, in which the story takes place 173 years before the events of the original series.
