The Kremlin said today that it considers the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court for Sergei Shoigu and Valery Gerasimov as unreasonable, adding that Russia does not recognize the court’s jurisdiction. The ICC on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for Shoigu, Russia’s former defense minister, and Russian general Gerasimov for alleged crimes committed by Russian forces in Ukraine. Shoigu is now the secretary of Russia’s Security Council. Gerasimov is Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. “We do not recognize the court’s jurisdiction,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. “We are not members of the court. Accordingly, we do not recognize these orders. Moreover, we consider it rather absurd, like the two previous warrants concerning the head of state and the commissioner for children.” Source: RES
