The International Criminal Police Organization intends to pay more attention to the fight against crimes related to digital assets.
To do this, Interpol will form a separate unit. A special group will be created in Singapore, and the main task will be to assist the authorities.
Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock said that the lack of a coherent legal framework for regulating the crypto industry creates serious problems for law enforcement agencies. Government agencies are often not properly trained and do not have the necessary equipment to deal with such crimes. Stock added that Interpol’s immediate plans would be to investigate cryptocurrency crimes in India. The information was confirmed by the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation of India, Praveen Sinha.
According to Singh, it is becoming increasingly difficult to track cryptocurrency crimes, so the country needs the support of foreign colleagues. In addition, international cooperation and information sharing will improve the work of law enforcement agencies around the world.
Interpol expects that by 2030 the work of the new unit will be fully operational, just as the international child sexual exploitation database is currently working, helping law enforcement agencies around the world to identify an average of seven victims of child abuse daily.
Earlier, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) reported that cryptocurrency scams came out on top in terms of the number of complaints from affected investors.
