Interpol: Its president is being investigated for “synergy in torture”

The presidency of Interpol is mainly an honorary office. Al-Raisi was elected president of the International Police Organization by member states in November, much to the chagrin of human rights activists and political officials.

THE Pnat has also launched a preliminary investigation into Lt. Gen. al-Raisi following allegations of “torture” and “acts of barbarism.” filed by the Gulf Center for Human Rights (GCHR) NGO on the fate of Ahmed Mansour, one of the leading human rights activists in the UAE.

In a statement issued in January 2020, the UAE Foreign Ministry had rejected the “baseless” accusations of NGOs about Mansour’s fate. On this issue, Interpol had claimed in January that the dispute concerns “an issue between the interested parties”.
