The first five kilometers of the Thermi – Galatista road, which are a very important part of the project, were handed over to traffic on Tuesday 07/12/21, both for road safety and for the development of the area.
The delivery was made by Messrs. Dimitris Koutras, Vice President and Petros Souretis, CEO of INTRAKAT.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Infrastructure & Transport Mr. Konstantinos Karamanlis, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mr. George Karagiannis, the Deputy Minister of Interior (Macedonia – Thrace Sector) Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, the Director of the Office of the Prime Minister in Thessaloniki, Mrs. Marie Of Central Macedonia Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas, MPs and representatives of the local government of Thessaloniki and Halkidiki while EGNATIA ODOS SA was represented by Messrs. Georgios Konstantopoulos, President and Konstantinos Koutsoukos, CEO.
The construction of the Thermi Galatista Road Axis project was assigned to INTRAKAT at the end of 2020 and is being implemented at a very fast pace in very adverse conditions due to the COVID 19 pandemic, thanks to the excellent cooperation and coordination of the most capable staff of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport. ODOS SA and INTRAKAT.
The project, the first phase of which is currently completed, is undergoing 12.5 km of operations, including:
– the complete overhaul of 8 level nodes
– the upgrade and reconstruction of the vertical and secondary roads at the junctions
– the construction of large (1 bridge, 2 overpasses) as well as small technical works.
Mr. Dimitris Koutras, Vice President of Intrakat on the occasion of the delivery ceremony said: “15 months earlier than our contractual obligation we deliver today a large part of the project to be able to win a difficult winter with fewer accidents on the difficult road of Halkidiki. “We are committed to continue to make every effort for the rapid and complete completion of the project before the end of the contractual obligation, aiming at the summer of 2022, based on the excellent cooperation to date with the competent bodies of public central and local administration.” .
