Intrakat: Aim for 2 GW over the next two years

By Eleni Botas

Intrakat sets a target of 2 GW in the next two years, implementing its energy planning with the announcement of cooperation with Parkwind for the joint development of offshore wind energy in the Greek seas.

Intrakat currently has 100 MW of licensed wind farms, 100 MW with final connection conditions and 500MW of which environmental licensing is in progress and 350MW of photovoltaics are waiting for the connection conditions.

As Loukas Lazarakis, CEO of Inkat Energy, stated yesterday, the next move is the entry of a strategic investor, most likely with a majority stake, in order to finance the ambitious RES development program.

He confirmed that the company is in talks with BC Partners, which, as he noted, still have a long way to go until they are finalized and it is estimated that before the autumn there can be no final agreement.

For the implementation of the strategy in the energy sector, INKAT Energy was established a few days ago, a 100% subsidiary of Intrakat, to which the most important assets have already been contributed.

Finally, Mr. Lazarakis referring to the future of RES in Greece and his position in the energy puzzle that the shift to RES is the only way for the energy independence of Greece, while it is necessary to speed up the procedures, referring mainly to the draft law which is at the gates and aspires to solve mainly the licensing and environmental issues that still plague the energy market.

Yesterday formal cooperation announced for the joint development of offshore wind energy in the Greek seas of Intrakat with the Belgian Parkwind. With extensive experience in offshore development projects and specialization in local infrastructure projects, the two companies complement each other.

Besides, it is estimated that Greece, in the coming years, will develop on a large scale this type of wind farms, which has obvious, multiple benefits.
