Audi has unveiled the revamped A8 sedan, which, according to an official press release, has a more modern design as well as the latest technology. The Audi A8 has been part of the Audi lineup since 1994.
The new Audi A8 features a wider Singleframe grille and side air intakes. The range includes the Audi S8 Performance version with additional sporty design details. A8 buyers can also opt for the S line package, which gives the front a more dynamic styling than the base model.
The wheelbase of the A8 is 2987 m, while the length is 5182 mm (the S8 is 10 mm longer) and the width is 1828 mm. The vehicle height is 1219 mm. All A8 vehicles use the Audi Space Frame, which is 58% aluminum. The high quality headlights use digital matrix LEDs at the front and OLED technology for the taillights. Each headlamp has about 1.3 million micromirrors. In one of the operating modes, the headlights emit a “light carpet”, which brightly illuminates the driver’s lane. OLED taillights are standard.
The interior has been designed to be spacious, creating a sense of openness. In the longer A8 L, the rear seats offer multiple adjustment options and a footrest. Rear passengers can also warm and massage their feet with the relaxation seat package. This seating package includes a back massage with 18 pneumatic cushions and electrically adjustable comfort headrests. A8 L buyers can also opt for a solid center console with additional fold-out tables, four-zone luxury air conditioning and rear seat screens.
Audi offers around 40 different driver assistance systems, some of which are standard equipment, while others are bundled in Park, City and Tour packages. The Park package has the option of remote parking assistance. The City package includes Intersection Assist, Side Assist and Audi’s pre-installed 360-degree safety system. The Tour package is standard in Germany and includes adaptive cruise control and more. The cabin is equipped with a digital instrument panel, a large-screen multimedia and entertainment system and an additional climate control display. High quality Bang & Olufsen acoustics are used.
Three different engines are available, including the 3.0 TFSI with 340 hp. A 286 hp version is available in China. The 4.0-liter engine develops 460 hp. and 660 Nm of torque. The top-of-the-line V8 S8 uses twin-turbochargers to produce 571bhp. and 800 Nm of torque. The car can accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds.
The Audi A8 starts at 99,500 euros and the Audi S8 starts at 144,800 euros.
