Qualcomm has introduced a development that will delight fans of listening to music in wireless headphones. This is aptX Lossless codec that provides CD quality audio (16 bit, 44.1 kHz) over Bluetooth.

Compression has to be applied to fit the 1.4 Mbps stream, which is the quality of a CD, into the 1 Mbps channel used by Qualcomm. But the company ensures that lossless compression is used. In other words, the stream at the output of the decoder is completely identical to the stream at the input of the encoder.
The codec will be included in the Snapdragon Sound technology announced in March. This assumes that all future Snapdragon Sound-enabled products will support the new codec as well. Unfortunately, this also means that the codec is incompatible with the existing SoC lineup. The appearance of devices with the aptX Lossless codec is expected in 2022.
