Yongnuo has released an updated version of the popular YN685 Speedlite for Canon and Nikon cameras since 2015. The new model is designated YN685 II.
The novelty has inherited all the advantages of the original model and looks very similar to it. At the same time, a USB port has been added, which is for updating the firmware. In the YN685, the firmware could also be updated, but this required the YN622 controller.
The flash is compatible with Yongnuo’s 2.4GHz TTL wireless system, allowing photographers to use the same YN622 controller. The flash can be fired manually and remotely by using the YN560-TX or YN560IV flash as the master, or the Yongnuo RF-605, RF-603 and RF-603 II triggers.
The guide number is 60. High-speed sync is supported (up to 1/8000 sec.). The zoom head changes the angle of illumination in the range corresponding to focal lengths of 20-200 mm. The integrated retractable diffuser allows the bottom border to be extended up to 14 mm. The head can be tilted up to 90 ° and rotated up to 180 ° to the left and right. The flash takes 2 seconds to recharge between flashes. The flash is powered by four AA batteries. Operation from an external power source is also provided. The layout of the controls and the LCD display are inherited from the original model.
The Yongnuo site does not yet describe the YN685 II, but it can be found on the B&H site. The price is also indicated there – $ 130, which is $ 15 more than the price of the YN685.
