Invasion of the Capitol: A former police officer who participated in the incidents was sentenced to 10 years in prison

Former New York City police officer Thomas Webster, who attacked his colleagues on January 6, 2021 at the Capitol, was sentenced today to 10 years in prison, the heaviest sentence to date for the invasion it was reported by Politico and CBS News and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

Webster was found guilty in May of assaulting a Washington police officer during the riots on Capitol Hill, by supporters of then-President Donald Trump. The District of Columbia federal court rejected his claim that he was acting in self-defense when he hit the police officer with a pole and knocked him down.

“I, too, wish you hadn’t come to Washington. I too wish that you had stayed at home in New York (…) that you had not gone to the Capitol that day, because we would all be better off. Not only you… but your family (…) the country,” Judge Amit Mehta said in announcing the sentence.
