The Sergipe Civil Police are looking for a man suspected of using Brazilian sign language (Libras) on his social media profile to scam deaf people. Rodrigo da Silva Alexandre caused financial losses to victims through promises of profits from investments and gambling.
The information was released last Wednesday (15). According to the Civil Police, the suspect is at large.
“He advertised these investments and asked victims to invest or bet on these accounts linked to his profile”, detailed delegate Augusto César.
According to the agent, Rodrigo worked in Santa Catarina and caused damage to residents of Sergipe. To date, ten victims have been identified.
“Often, people who have a disability have difficulty using social networks, and the person being investigated took advantage of this and started using the language of Libras,” said Augusto.
Following a complaint, the Civil Police asked the Court to seize the assets and bank accounts of the person being investigated. “We sent a court order to Santa Catarina but, due to the police in that state not being able to locate him, we asked for an arrest warrant which has already been issued by the Court.”
In a statement, the Civil Police requested that information and complaints that could contribute to Rodrigo’s location be passed on to the police.
Furthermore, the corporation asked that other potential victims who have not yet registered a police report contact the 1st Metropolitan Police Station.
