Investigation will seek to explain the causes of the accident involving the Voepass plane

The investigation to discover the reasons that caused the crash of the Voepass plane in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, will be carried out by teams from the Civil Police of São Paulo, Federal Police and members of the Brazilian Air Force, through the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA).

The accident, which caused the death of 61 people, including passengers and crew, is the biggest in Brazilian aviation since 2007, when a plane belonging to the former TAM (now Latam) left the runway at Congonhas Airport and hit a building belonging to the company itself, killing more than 150 people.

No emergency communication

According to the head of Cenipa, Brigadier Marcelo Moreno, there was no emergency communication during the Voepass flight, which crashed early Friday afternoon (9) in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo.

“What we have so far is that there was no communication from the aircraft between the control bodies that there would be an emergency,” stated Marcelo Moreno.

Cenipa confirmed that at 1:22 p.m. on Friday, there was a loss of communication between the aircraft and air traffic control. The representative explained that this record of contact between the plane and the control center is what allows the agency to determine the time of the accident.

“Once the aircraft leaves, or lands, or loses this information, in aircraft accidents, we understand that it was that moment in which the aircraft had contact with the ground,” explained Moreno.

Systems working and maintenance up to date

Representatives from Voepass stated, this Friday (9), that the “anti-ice” system, responsible for removing the accumulation of ice from aircraft, was working normally when the plane that crashed in Vinhedo (SP) departed from Cascavel airport (PR).

The plane was making its second trip on Friday, and was scheduled for two more. The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) said the aircraft’s maintenance was up to date.

Voepass representatives also stated that the information about problems with the aircraft’s air conditioning the previous day was not known to the company. According to them, the company will await the conclusion of the investigations by CENIPA. The aircraft’s black box was located among the wreckage.
