Correction: Investigators now believe the Steam gaming platform account in the name of the man who shot former President Donald Trump over the weekend is fake, a US official briefed on the matter told CNN . Earlier, this text said the account belonged to the shooter, which has now been corrected by the FBI.
Early this Thursday (18), the CNN citing a source familiar with the matter, reported that Thomas Matthews Crooks posted: “July 13th will be my debut, see how it plays out.” The source did not elaborate on the date or whether there were other posts.
The FBI told senators on Wednesday (17) that it believed the account actually belonged to Crooks, the source familiar with the briefing said. But the agency has now revised that assessment, the U.S. official said.
Authorities continue to caution that the investigation is still in its early stages and has yet to find a motive to explain the assassination attempt on the presidential candidate.
