Investment opportunities in Greece at the heart of the Greek-Saudi Business Forum

In the context of the 5th Greece – Saudi Arabia, which takes place in Athens from 29 to 31 May 2022, a business mission led by the Minister of Investment, SA Khalid Al Falih, is visiting Greece. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hellenic Investment and Foreign Trade Company (Enterprise Greece), co-organize a series of actions including business forums, private (B2B) meetings with Greek companies and exploratory site visits, to get to know Saudi Arabian businessmen, opportunities presented by Greece.

The business mission consists of high-ranking executives of fifty-nine (59) companies, from the key sectors of energy, construction, tourism, supply chain, etc.

The Business Forum aims to further promote the relations between the business communities of Greece and Saudi Arabia, something that is expected to have a positive impact on the one hand on the extroversion of the country, and on the other hand on the strengthening of the national economy. During the conference, the Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis, the Deputy Minister in charge of Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, Costas Frangogiannis, the Secretary General of International Economic Relations and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, and the CEO of Enterprise Greece, George Filiopoulos.

During the Business Forum, extensive reference was made to existing but mainly new investment opportunities. The requests of the Greek companies for B2B meetings with Saudi companies amounted to 234.

In more detail, the conference discussed issues related to:

– the connection of shipping, exports and transport and the impact of their interaction, climate change and the carbonization of shipping, the new environmental regulations at international and regional level for the adoption of drastic environmental measures aimed at achieving full recovery.

– tourism and the resilience of the Greek tourism industry which in 2021 managed to recover 47% in number of arrivals and 59% in travel receipts of the percentages achieved by, before the pandemic, 2019.

Energy and the need for energy transition. In the current period with the continuous rise of prices that burden the world economy, since energy consumption is a prerequisite for most economic activities, the debate on energy transition, supplier diversification, energy storage, and detoxification from fossil fuels , is extremely topical. Exploring available energy supply alternatives is important for the domestic economy and the government is looking for synergies, market opportunities, bilateral cooperation, etc.

– enhancing growth momentum and business synergies through high technology, research, digitization, smart automation, Artificial Intelligence and the practical application of ideas that result in the introduction of new goods and services or the improvement in the supply of goods or services. Both countries have much to gain by focusing on innovation, research and technology.

– agricultural products / food and the need for access to safe and nutritious foods that meet the nutritional preferences and nutritional needs of consumers. Food security is an issue that concerns all countries. The Mediterranean diet is the flagship of healthy eating and the extroverted Greek food & beverage industry can guarantee the availability of high quality products.
