Investments in Brazilian startups have an annual increase of 129% in February, at US$ 763 million

At startups Brazilian companies received around US$ 763 million in investments in February 2022, according to a survey by the Distrito platform. The value represents an increase of 129% compared to the same month in 2021.

With that, the total invested in the sector this year surpassed the US$ 1 billion mark, with US$ 1.36 billion, which according to the platform indicates that startups “started 2022 by moving the innovation ecosystem even more”.

The survey points out that the average ticket, or value, increased in most stages of attracting investment, which according to Gustavo Gierun, CEO of the District, points to a greater maturity of the Brazilian startup ecosystem, with more robust contributions.

“We look at series tickets [de investimento] A and B, for example, already resembling those of more consolidated markets, such as the American and Asian. It’s still a bit off the curve, but it’s worth following the movement”, he says.

Among the startup sectors, fintech continues to lead the total invested, raising US$ 567 million in February. Of the value, US$ 300 million are from the Neon round, a company that has become a unicornterm used when the startup is worth more than $1 billion.

Then there are the HRTechs, focused on the human resources area, which raised US$ 102 million, the real state – in the real estate area – with US$ 25.9 million, the retailtechs, in the retail sector, with US$ 17.2 million. million and martechs, in the marketing area, with US$ 14.7 million.

The number of acquisitions and mergers remained stable in relation to February 2021. There were 13 in 2022, against 14 last year. Adding the transactions in February and January of this year, the total is 34 mergers and acquisitions, against 29 in 2021.

Fintechs were also the ones that most participated in this type of business, with eight negotiations.

“The market is accelerating through mergers and acquisitions, something that was not so usual in the past”, assesses Gierun.
