Ioannis Xifaras: In two days the contract is signed with the contractor for ‘Thriasio I

The signing in the next two days of the contract with the contractor for “Thriasio I” and the approval in the next period by the government of the National Strategy for freight transport, announced the Secretary General of Transport of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Ioannis Xifaras, speaking in the context of an online event, organized today by the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industryfor the presentation of the e-Logistic Portal, a new digital platform with organized information material for the supply chain.

In particular, Mr. Xifaras, initially referred to the value of the supply chain, emphasizing that it is a lever of competitiveness for the Greek economy, contributing 9.5% to the country’s GDP, with a gross value added of 11 billion euros and noted that in the coming years its contribution will increase to 12%.

As he said, the support of the industry is a priority for the government, especially after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. Our goal, he added, is for Greece to become a strong logistic hub of SE Europe and for this reason we have completed its National Strategy for freight transport, having updated the National Action Plan for the supply chain, which will be approved in the coming days. from the government.

Mr. Xifaras underlined that, at the same time, the national observatory is being launched, which will allow the government to support targeted actions and fast plans for freight transport, using new digital tools.

The freight policy also envisages the improvement of infrastructure through a giant “package” of projects for the development and redevelopment of the Greek railway, as well as its interconnection with the ports, worth 4 billion euros, while a new one is being implemented. PPP project, which will solve the chronic problem of maintenance and redevelopment of the railway, added Mr. Xifaras.

Referring to the government’s plan for the concession of “Thriasios I”, he noted that in two days the contract with the contractor is signed, while for “Thriasios II” the tender is completed, after a short extension for the submission of bids.

Finally, the Secretary General of Transport also spoke about the institutionalization of a serious, as he said, framework regarding waterways, which will positively affect the operation of freight transport.

Earlier, the General Manager and Member of the Board of the Hellenic-German Chamber, Dr. Athanasios Kelemis, commenting on the operation of the e-Logistic Portal, underlined that the Logistics Committee managed to collect and digitally organize a huge amount of information, which, today, requires time for everyone involved to locate it and especially to manage it, to utilize and application.

As he noted, the new initiative of the Chamber comes to offer solutions to daily, small or large, problems of the supply chain, which in the last two years have intensified due to the pandemic. That was one of the main reasons why the Chamber and the relevant Committee decided to set up a specialized web portal, he added.

He stressed that this initiative contributes to the better management of the emergency situation, which was caused internationally in the operation of the supply chain by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Referring, finally, to the strategy followed by the Chamber in matters of new technologies, Dr. Kelemis stressed that as a body he is fully committed to the issue of digitization and, where he believes that he can contribute to the so-called digital market transition, he does so with all his might.

On his part, the Chairman of the Logistics Committee of the Hellenic-German Chamber, Mr. George Stamnos, in his brief statement noted that the Chamber, having fully understood the importance of digitization and organization of information through platforms, which offer access to a wealth of knowledge and easy-to-use search methods, proceeded to the organization of the e-Logistic Portal.

As he explained, “we tried to approach in an innovative way, harmonized with the requirements of the time that want everyone interested to have easy and digital access, easy to navigate and through links to find basic and useful information, but also to understand in which direction will be able to look for even more, regarding the operation of the supply chain “.
