IOBE: Unemployment continued to decrease in April as well

Unemployment continued to decrease in April (yoy), due to an increase in employment, according to what is revealed in the monthly bulletin of developments in Industry from IOBE for the month of July.

According to the bulletin, there was a slight decline in the economic climate in June, as a result of worsening expectations in all sectors except Construction, and a weakening of consumer confidence.

At the same time there was a deterioration of expectations in Industry, at 103.9 points. in June, from 111.4 units. in May.

On the contrary, IOBE recorded a 2.6% improvement in industrial production in May compared to April. A 3.2% (yoy) rise in Greece, compared to a 2.3% rise in the EU27. There was a further rise in manufacturing exports of 16.4% in April (yoy). Trade deficit widened to €3.5 billion, from €2.3 billion a year ago.

Apart from these, the weakening of electricity costs continued in May, by 9.2% compared to the previous month, however remaining at higher levels than other European markets.

The contribution of the food-beverage Industry to the total manufacturing was significant, with added value at €3.4 billion, or 29% of the total Manufacturing in 2019, marginally strengthened compared to the previous year.

The food and beverage industry is the largest employer in Greek manufacturing, with the number of employees exceeding 137.7 thousand, increased by 15% compared to 2020, according to the monthly bulletin of IOBE, while the exports of the food industry -drinks amounted to 12.1% of all goods exports in 2021.
