Ipanema beach, world famous for its natural beauty, recently gained a new projection on the international scene. The destination, located in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, was elected the second best beach in the world for the LGBTQIA+ public in 2021.
The representative from Rio was second only to Playa de los Muertos, in the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta. According to the website GayCities, responsible for the survey, the region has been a “gay beach” for at least two decades.
The strip of sand at the height of Rua Farme de Amoedo, between posts 8 and 9, was pointed out as the highlight by internet users who participated in the vote entitled “Fun The Sun”. On the website, Ipanema beach is classified as “a great place to find out where all the nightlife parties are” and the “place for muscular men in Rio”.
The third place was occupied by Black’s Beach, in San Diego, in the US state of California. The tourist spot had already been awarded by the portal previously, in 2019.
In all, seven beaches participated in the online contest, which received more than 50,000 votes.
