The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation in the city of São Paulo, rose 0.12% in August, decelerating from the 0.16% gain seen in July, but gaining strength from the slight increase in 0.05% observed in the third quadrissemana last month, according to data published this Friday, 2, by the Economic Research Institute Foundation (Fipe).
The August result was exactly in line with the median of estimates from market institutions consulted by the Broadcast projections, of 0.12%. Forecasts ranged from a drop of 0.40% to a rise of 0.30%.
Between January and August, the IPC-Fipe accumulated inflation of 5.64%. In the 12-month period through August, the index increased 9.29%.
In the eighth month of this year, four of the seven components of the IPC-Fipe cooled down or migrated to deflation: Food (from 0.95% in July to -0.58% in August), Health (from 1.00% to 0.53 %), Clothing (from 0.95% to 0.72%) and Education (from 0.63% to 0.11%).
On the other hand, there was acceleration in the categories Housing (from 0.37% in July to 0.76% in August) and Personal Expenses (from 0.52% to 1.22%). In the case of Transport, deflation lost strength (from -2.70 to -1.51%).
