IPC-S slows to 0.41% in the 2nd quadrissemana of May, says FGV

The Consumer Price Index – Weekly (IPC-S) cooled to 0.41% in the second quadrissemana of May, after 0.83% in the first reading.

The information was released this Monday (16) by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). The indicator accumulates high of 10.17% in 12 months, lower than the advance of 10.64% in the period until the first quadrissemana.

Of the eight categories of expenses that make up the indicator, five had relief from the first to the second four weeks of May, especially Housing, which deepened deflation from 1.69% to 2.98%.

The item with the greatest influence in the group was the residential electricity tariff, which fell from -10.78% to -15.45%.

Transport (1.53% to 1.10%), Food (1.59% to 1.19%), Communication (-0.04% to -0.13%) and Health and Personal Care (1.29% to 1.21%) were the other groups to show a decrease in the rate of change.

In these classes, the items with the greatest weight were gasoline (1.94% to 0.68%), vegetables (6.62% to 1.59%), residential telephone tariff (1.18% to 0.67 %) and medicines in general (4.28% to 3.74%).

On the other hand, Education, Reading and Recreation (3.36% to 3.75%), Clothing (1.09% to 1.19%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.59% to 0.70%) accelerated compared to the first four weeks, pulled by airfare (17.76% to 19.60%), belts and bags (0.11% to 0.92%) and postal tariff (1.48% to 3.37%).

Residential electricity tariff (-10.78% to -15.45%), residential condominium (-2.22% to -3.43%) and carrot (-4.85% to -15.40%) were the items that pulled the IPC-S down the second quarter of May. Tomato (8.69% to -5.03%) and health insurance (-0.50% to -0.51%) complete the list.

In the other direction, airfare (17.76% to 19.60%), ethanol (8.78% to 9.01%) and gasoline (1.94% to 0.68%) pushed the indicator up, followed by potato (16.27% to 15.33%) and perfume (2.50% to 3.88%).
