Ipec research, request for an investigation against Moraes and more than September 26

The results of the Globo/Ipec poll on the presidential race, and the request for an investigation by retired Federal Police (PF) delegates against Minister Alexandre de Moraes are among the highlights of this Monday (26).

Ipec Research

A Globo/Ipec poll on the presidential race released this Monday (26) shows Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) ahead, with 48% of voting intentions, followed by Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with 31%. The first round of elections is scheduled for October 2.

Lula oscillated one point up, while Bolsonaro was stable. Then appear Ciro Gomes (PDT), with 6%; and Simone Tebet (MDB), with 5%. Soraya Thronicke (União Brasil) and Felipe D’Avila (Novo) are tied with 1%.

Request for an investigation against Moraes

Retired Federal Police (PF) delegates sent the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, a criminal report in which they ask for the opening of an investigation against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and against the delegate Fábio Shor, from the Federal Police, for alleged “crimes of abuse of authority”.

The document was signed by 131 retired PF delegates last Friday (23). They question the conduct of Moraes and Shor in the operation carried out on August 23 against Bolsonarista businessmen, through search and seizure warrants, in addition to the telematic removal of those investigated.

Federal force in the elections

The Northeast region has the highest number of requests for support to the Federal Force to reinforce security for the first round of the 2022 Elections. In total, there were 220 requests authorized by the presidency of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The Southeast is in second place among the regions with 167 requests, all from Rio de Janeiro.

This year, Rio de Janeiro was the record state in requests for reinforcements from the Federal Force for the election. In the 2018 elections, the forces acted in 69 locations in Rio. The growth was 142%.

Then come Maranhão and Piauí, with 97 and 85 localities requesting support for the elections this Sunday (2), respectively.

national economy

The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, said this Monday (26) that, in the coming years, Brazil will be among the five largest economies in the world. The speech was made at the SENAI CIMATEC event, in Salvador.

“We only have to trust ourselves, and our president has given this example of pride and confidence”, added the minister.

Hurricane Ian

As Hurricane Ian approaches Florida, National Weather Service (NWS) officials in Tampa are concerned that residents are not prepared for what could affect the Tampa Bay area.

“The last major hurricane that really had a direct impact was 100 years ago,” NWS meteorologist Rick Davis told CNN . “So there are a lot of people who have dealt with hurricanes in the last five or 10 years in Florida and they might have the perception of going through a strong storm.”

But it won’t be a direct hit for Tampa to suffer catastrophic flood damage. Tampa Bay is extremely vulnerable to storm surges because incoming water has nowhere to go, “so it keeps piling up in downtown Tampa,” according to Davis.
