iPhone 13 is already well ahead of the hugely popular iPhone 12 in terms of pre-orders

As of Thursday, Chinese shoppers have placed more than 2 million pre-orders for iPhone 13 smartphones on JD.com alone, according to the South China Morning Post. Last year, over the same period, there were 1.5 million pre-orders for the iPhone 12.

There are currently 3 million pre-orders on the JD.com platform. As we already reported, pre-orders have also started in many other countries around the world, while smartphones are in high demand, and some models are already delayed for a month. In addition to Chinese retailer JD.com, other platforms, including Alibaba, are showing strong interest in iPhone 13 models.

The increased demand for the Apple iPhone 13 model seems to be related to the weakening of Huawei’s position in the country. Due to US trade sanctions, Huawei is struggling to stay in the market, however even the flagship Huawei P50 and P50 Pro lack 5G connectivity.

The South China Morning Post also reports that all iPhone 13 models in China were cheaper than their iPhone 12 predecessors, which surprised many consumers. Each device is about $ 40-120 cheaper than its predecessor.

Overall, smartphone shipments in China are declining, but Apple is thriving. In the second quarter of 2021, Apple became the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in China after Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi. As the world’s largest smartphone market, China is an important region for Apple and other mobile phone manufacturers.

An analyst at Counterpoint told the South China Morning Post that the iPhone 13 is likely to continue the strong momentum of the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 was originally thought to sell worse due to the lack of new features. But given Huawei’s plight, analysts now believe the iPhone 13 will sell just as well.
