Apple has used brand new cameras for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max with noticeably larger image sensors. Moreover, if last year the corresponding updates were exclusive only for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, then this year even the mini version received them, which has a camera with 1.7 micron pixels and stabilization with a sensor shift. This helped take the iPhone 13 mini to the next level – in the DxOMark camera test, it scored 130 points, which is equal to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The latter, of course, has better zoom performance and has a 2.5x telephoto lens, but Apple’s new A15 chipset does a better job of handling video.
Both smartphones received the same number of points for the photo – 138. The iPhone 13 mini was distinguished by accurate exposure, good color reproduction, white balance, stable and fast autofocus. The lack of a separate telephoto lens leads to certain zoom problems, including reduced detail. Noise appears on an ultra wide-angle camera, especially in low light.
The iPhone 13 mini scored 117 points for video, which is higher than the iPhone 12 Pro Max (113) and just a couple of points less than the iPhone 13 Pro. Thus, we can safely say that this is one of the best smartphones for video shooting. In the overall DxOMark ranking, the iPhone 13 mini is ranked 11th.
As for the iPhone 13 Pro, it scored 137 points in the camera test, but in terms of video shooting it ranks first among smartphones. The experts noted that the problems of the previous generation have been fixed.
