According to DigiTimes, Apple intends to bring Wi-Fi 6E technology to its new iPhones this year. It is also expected to become a standard feature on iOS and Android smartphones in 2022.
Wi-Fi 6E is an enhanced version of Wi-Fi 6. The key difference between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E is the frequency range used. WiFi 6E networks operate in the 6 GHz band, offering higher bandwidth than the 160 MHz band in which Wi-Fi 6 networks operate.
The Cupertino tech giant switched from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6 in the iPhone 11 lineup in 2019, offering users faster speeds and improved security. The introduction of Wi-Fi 6E support should result in more bandwidth and less interference.
The source also adds that the laser rangefinder will be standard on all four iPhone 13 models. In the iPhone 12 line, laser rangefinders are available only on the Pro and Pro Max models.
The company is expected to still use only one biometric method (Face ID) on the iPhone 13 series.
The iPhone presentation is expected in September this year.
