Thanks to the last iOS update now it is possible unlock iPhone even when wearing the faceplate. The version is 15.4, recently available for everyone, and this feature had actually been talked about for several months. In the end Apple has arrived and if even outdoors the protections are now a memory, in Italy indoors it will still be useful for some time.
To use it you need, after updating, scan the face again useful to enable the Face ID, i.e. the facial recognition needed to unlock the phone, downloads from the App Store or authorize payments. The procedure is quick, in two steps, there is a third if you wear glasses. We obviously tried it right away and the system works without too many problems as it goes to scan the area around the eyes. It works with prescription glasses but not always with sunglasses.
But be careful: unlocking with the cover is possible only for models from iPhone 12 onwards. The others, which can also be updated to iOS 15.4 up to the 6s model, are excluded. Those who use an Apple Watch, however, will be able to unlock the iPhone even with previous models. iOS 15.4 is expected to be the last substantial OS update before iOS 16 arrives, which we will see at the next global developer conference in May-June and then we can taste in September along with the new ones. iPhone 14.
The other updates of iOS 15.4
Among other updates of iOS 15.4 there is the possibility to load on the Health application, and then on the Wallet, your own green pass, without using third party and perhaps unsafe services. Then they arrive 37 new emojis: funny smileys in funny attitudes such as I see I don’t see and the gesture of money, those on the pregnant people. As Emojipedia points out, the two new elements were in fact created to “represent trans men, non-binary people or women with short hair”. The update also adds the ability to start SharePlay sessions with FaceTime directly from applications that support the function, the operation of Siri even when the phone is off by date and time, a new warning on the safety of AirTag and many small innovations, from the enrichment of the Podcast app to a new emergency call system as well as a Macro camera improvement (necessary) on iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. There is also a novelty unveiled last June for iPad (in this case thus updating the tablet to iOS 15.4): theUniversal Control with which to use a single mouse or keyboard connected to the Mac to also control the iPad (and vice versa, for example with a Magic Keyboard connected to the iPad) in a seamless joint work session.
