Apple fans have long been waiting for the company to add a periscope zoom lens to its iPhone. The patent published today for the “periscope camera module” confirms that the company is working in this direction.
As reported by PatentlyApple, on January 29, 2021, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a new patent application. The documents say that the invention of the Cupertino giant concerns camera technology with a focal length range of 85 to 165 mm. This module can be used in a small form factor camera. The patented camera has two folding light elements and a lens system located between the two elements.

It follows from the design description that the camera system can offer superior optical zoom capabilities when combined with additional digital zoom functionality. Obviously, such a camera should appear in new iPhone smartphones, but it is not yet known in what year.
It is also noteworthy that the patent implies the use of such cameras in laptops, computers, tablets and other devices.
Earlier we published high-quality photo renders of the iPhone 12S Pro with reduced bangs.
