Owners of cars with final plate 1 in the state of São Paulo has until this Thursday (10th) to pay the IPVA (Motor Vehicle Ownership Tax) in cash with a 5% discount.
The tax due dates, established by the government of São Paulo, follow the last number on the vehicle’s license plate. On Friday (11), drivers with vehicles ending in 2 have the last day to make the cash payment with a 5% discount, and so on, considering only working days.
The payment option in up to five installments, which also gives a 5% discount, also starts this month. The first installment expires this Thursday for owners of cars with final plate 1.
How to consult?
The query for the value of tribute can be done directly in bank applications, after informing the Renavam number, the registration of the vehicle.
Another alternative is to check the value of the IPVA on the website of the Secretary of Finance and Planning of the state, informing the Renavan number and the license plate of the vehicle.
The IPVA of 2022 had a rise in value due to the rise in car prices, reference for the calculation. However, the discount for cash payment in February is still higher than in 2021, at 3%.
How is the payment done?
Payment can be made via the bank network, with the generation of a bank slip. It is also possible to pay at lottery houses or by credit card, at companies accredited to the São Paulo Treasury Department (check the list here).
What is the discount for 0 km cars and trucks?
The rules apply to owners of all automotive vehicles included in the IPVA, such as cars, vans, buses, motorcycles and trucks.
However, 0 km vehicle owners have different rules. In this case, the discount of 3% of the total amount was maintained with payment until the fifth day after the invoice issuance. It is possible to pay in installments in five installments, but without discount.
In the case of trucks and tractor-trucks, the 5% discount on cash payment is valid for the month of April.
If there is an installment in five installments, which also gives a 5% discount, payments start in March, but skip the months of April and June. The month of February also does not enter the payment calendar in this case.

What happens if you don’t pay the IPVA?
If there is no payment of IPVA, the owner of the vehicle is subject to a fine of 0.33% per day of delay and late payment interest based on the basic rate, the Selic rate. After 60 days without payment, the percentage of the fine increases to 20% of the tax amount.
