Iran: Actress Tarane Alidusti was released from prison

THE Iranian actress Tarane Alidusti she was released today after three weeks of detention due to her open support on demonstrations in the country.

The Iran is rocked by demonstrations, which the authorities call “riots”, after death of young Mahsa Amini on September 16; during her detention for violating the Islamic dress code imposed on women in Iran.

Iranian officials say hundreds of people have been killed in the “riots,” including members of the security forces, and thousands more have been arrested.

THE Alindustias APE-MPE reminds, was detained in Tehran since December 17 after had made several social media posts supporting the protests mainly denouncing the execution of protesters, or in which she appears to lift her headscarf.

“My client was released today on bail,” Zahra Minou’s lawyer told Isna news agency.

The actress was the most famous figure arrested in connection with the protests.

Almost 500 personalities and workers from the field of cinema, such as the French actress Marion Cotillard or the Spanish director Pedro Almodovar they had requested in December in an open letter the immediate release of Alidusti.

Tarane Alidusti is known for her roles in films by director Asghar Faradi, including “The Merchant”, which won an Oscar for foreign language film in 2017. She also starred in Said Rustagi’s film “Leila’s Brothers” which was presented at this year’s Festival of Cannes.
