A ship carrying 106,500 liters of smuggled fuel was seized by the authorities Iranwhile its nine-member crew was arrested, the Tasnim agency reported today.
“On the orders of the Kess prosecutor, the officers of the Navy base, after locating a ship carrying 106,500 liters of smuggled fuel, began the process of seizing it,” said the head of the judicial service of Hormozgan province.
Iran, where fuel prices are among the lowest in the world due to large government subsidies and the devaluation of the country’s currency, is facing fuel smuggling to its neighboring countries by land and by sea to the Gulf countries.
Several ships have been arrested in recent months for trying to smuggle fuel out of Iran into Gulf countries, according to Reuters and the Athens News Agency.
