Iran: Denies any connection with the targets hit by the US in Syria

Iran has denied having anything to do with the facilities targeted by the United States in Syria, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said today, according to the ministry’s Telegram channel.

Yesterday, Tuesday, the US military announced that it struck in Deir al-Zor, Syria, infrastructure facilities used by organizations linked to Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps.

“The US attack on Syrian infrastructure and people constitutes a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The facilities targeted had no ties to the Islamic Republic,” Kanaani said.

US forces were first deployed to Syria during the Obama administration’s campaign against Islamic State, in partnership with a Kurdish-led group, the Syrian Democratic Forces. There are about 900 US troops in Syria, most of them in the east.

Iranian-backed militants gained a foothold in Syria while fighting in support of President Bashar al-Assad during Syria’s civil war.
