Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said today that Tehran “never” had any hope that talks in Vienna aimed at reviving the 2015 nuclear deal would be successful.
Iran and the United States resumed indirect talks in Vienna on Tuesday after a 10-day hiatus, but negotiators have not revealed whether they are closer to resolving the outstanding issues.
“We are pinning our hopes on the east, west, north and south of the country, but we never had expectations from Vienna and New York,” Rice said in a televised address on the 43rd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
The Iranian president noted that the country will rely on its own economic capabilities, instead of expecting support from abroad and talks on Iran’s nuclear program.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that there was a long way to go before the 2015 agreement was revived.
“Our foreign policy is balanced. When we look to the West, our country’s relations are not balanced, we have to look at all the countries and opportunities in the world, especially our neighbors,” he said.
