The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency expresses his concern over the condition of several undeclared Iranian facilities, while stocks enriched uranium of Tehran continue to accumulate, according to a report obtained by the French Agency today in Vienna.
“The director general (Rafael Grossi) is concerned that the technical discussions between Iran and the international community have not yielded the expected results,” the report said.
The meetings, which began in April, are aimed at clarifying the possible presence of nuclear material at various sites. “Their current location is not known to the service,” explains the Vienna-based IAEA.
In its previous report in February, the IAEA had cited without naming one of these sites, in this case the Turkuzabad area warehouse in Tehran province.
It now refers to three facilities in total and cites a fourth, for which “Iran has not answered the Agency’s questions”.
The report, which will be considered during a Governing Council meeting next week, also lists the low enriched uranium that is accumulating from Iran.
Its quantity is almost 16 times higher than the limit allowed under the international agreement of 2015.
It reaches 3,241 kg for a maximum of 202.8 kg (or 300 kg of uranium hexafluoride UF6), according to an estimate. The IAEA explained that it was not able to verify the whole. In the previous report, this stock was 2,967.8 kg.
Tehran gradually phased out its nuclear obligations from 2019 in response to the resumption of US sanctions by Donald Trump
Negotiations are currently under way in Vienna to return the United States to the deal, which is aimed at preventing the Islamic Republic from acquiring an atomic bomb.
