Iran has finalized a deal to buy Russian fighter jets

Iran finalize arrangements for delivery Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets and helicoptersIran’s deputy defense minister told Iran’s Tasnim news agency today, as Tehran and Moscow forge closer military ties.

The Iranian Air Force has only a few dozen attack aircraft, including Russian jets, as well as old American models acquired before the Islamic Revolution of 1979, as reported by APE-MPE. “Plans have been finalized to add Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets, Mil Mi-28 attack helicopters and Yak-130 trainer jets to the combat units of the Iranian Army,” Iranian Deputy Defense Minister Mehdi Farahi said.

Tasnim’s cable did not include any confirmation of the agreement from the Russian side. In 2018, Iran has announced that it has begun production of the indigenously designed Kowsar fighter for use by its Air Force. Military experts believe the jet is an exact copy of the F-5, which was first produced in USA in the 1960s.
