Iran: Investigation into the death of a teenager who participated in the protests for Amini – She had sent a message to her friend

Iran has been rocked by protests for days, after the death of the 22-year-old Kurdish woman Amini after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran for she wasn’t wearing her headscarf properly.

Dozens of people, mainly protesters but also members of the security forces, have been killed since September 16 during the rallies, which the Iranian authorities have described as “riots”, while hundreds more have been arrested.

“The Criminal Court of Tehran has launched an investigation to determine the cause of death of Nika Sakrami,” said Ali Salehi, the prosecutor of the Iranian capital, late Tuesday. “An investigation order has been issued for the case and the necessary measures have been taken in this direction” he added.

In the last message she had sent to her friend Nika, who would have turned 17 on Sunday, she wrote that she was being chased by security forcesas her aunt Ata Sakrami denounced speaking to BBC Persian.

On Sunday, the teenager’s family took her body to her father’s hometown of Khoramabad in western Iran. Under pressure the family agreed not to hold a funeral and the security forces “stole” Nika’s body and buried it in the village of Weisian, a img alleged.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Khoramabad cemetery and chanted slogans against the Iranian regime.

Atas, who reported Nika’s case on social media, was arrested on Sunday in a raid on her home by security forces who threatened to kill her if anyone in the family joined the protests, the img added.
